Friday.Already?

the week went by fast (woo-hoo!) i'm glad that the weekend is here and i am counting down until my last day of finals, which is next thursday!

been thinking (that's rare.. :P) maybe i should remove the Reblogger thingie/application/script/whatever off the site. no one is responding. hopefully they are reading these somewhat daily rants. well, even if anyone isn't reading this stuff, its a good way to let off some steam. notice how i complain at least one in almost all of the entries. I just glanced at the site and it suggests that Blog Back should be installed due to problems with Reblogger.

Ok. so there is some hope that someone is reading this :D

Um, i just continue to read on the install page that they are no longer accepting new users for Blog Back. Oh well, i'll look for something else to use on the site.
That's cool. I would like to revamp the site anyways. Been working on some new artwork for the site with a lot of assistance from the fontalicious dingbats. if you visit the site, be sure to download these dingbats: deejay supreme, chickabiddies, the kids, and superstar dj. Be sure to get the porky's font too. I remember seeing it on this site before in one of the layouts of the past.

A.Sweet.Monday (for once)

Ok, the Thanksgiving holiday is over. Now back to some point of normalcy (if that is a word...).

Today has been cool so far for it to be a Monday. My Spanish class was cancelled yet again, due to my teacher being out sick. That'll give me a few extra days to memorize my lines for the spanish oral presentation that I have to do with a classmate of mine, who also happened to attend the same high school as I did. And speaking of high school, I received an email from a good friend of mine last week about an informal get together for the classes of 1987 to 2001 in early December. I'm not sure about going for some reason. I can recall at graduation way back in the year 2000 :P that some people that I was sitting close to were crying because they were leaving high school. Awww, how cute... Man! I couldn't wait until the ceremonies were over! That was the last night that I had to deal with some of those people as classmates! I was free, free!

Ok, ok, that was a bit exaggerated, I do miss my friends, but I was so looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life, the future seemed exciting to me (and it still does). I think going to that impromptu reunion will place me back a little, to a place that I don't prefer to visit again, that being those wonderful yet awkward high school years.

Back to the events of today, things are sweet for it to be a Monday.
But things will drastically change next week....because of finals... :P

life ain't great now, but it's much improved
-Bubba Sparxxx, Ugly

I've been so caught up with adjusting with the death of my father, that I haven't been blogging at all in the past few weeks. I guess the reason that I quote the song if for the fact that it sums up my entire life right now. I'm feeling as if I am getting closer with some of my relatives, and the bond between me and my friends have greatly strengthened.

It just feels weird not having my Dad around, physically. I'm used to seeing him when I get home from campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays, when he didn't have to go for his dialysis treatments. Sometimes he would open the front door before I could even find my keys in my bookbag. They always managed to sink to the bottom.
I'm gonna miss the small things like that.

I'm also gonna miss how we used to talk about worldly affairs. My Dad knew a lot of stuff. He was smart! :)

For right now, I am adjusting well to not having him here. Without a doubt, I will keep him in my heart. Our house seems so big now, with only my Mom and I there. We've been in that house for over 10 years now. We moved in on my Dad's birthday (Aug. 26) now that I recall.

The house has never felt so empty in my entire life.

An Extra Note: according to the death certificate that my mother just recieved on Wednesday, Dad passed away on the 25 of October, not the 24th as printed on the obituary, in the newspaper, and in all the minds and hearts of all of the people that loved him.

My Dad, the fallen Superhero.

Late Wednesday night, my Dad passed away. His body rejected the kidney that he received just the day before.
I'm sad, empty and a bit scared. But he always said that if he was to pass on, my Mom and I would be taken cared of.

He never told a lie.

He's not hurting anymore, but I still miss him.

My Dad was definatley a superhero in my eyes, and he still is.
He was a great person, a thrill to have around.

My Mom and I were so lucky to have such a wonderful person like him in our lives.

We were definately the blessed ones.

This blog is on hiatus for now, until things are settled.

My Dad, the Superhero.

Okay, corny title, but in a way, I think that its true. Of course, I would say that cuz, well, um he's my Dad. Yesterday happened to be one of the best days that my parents and I had in a long while. Every since this happened with my Dad, things have been sour lately. I guess that we were just waiting for a miracle or something to happen.

Early Tuesday morning, that miracle happened.

Got a call at 1am for my Dad to report to the hospital in order to undergo kidney transplant surgery. And this time around, unlike last time, all of his tests were good. Although I was asleep when the phone rang early in the morning like that, I was happy that my Dad got his wish.

The reason that I call him a superhero is because he is a strong, tough person. He looks at the positive side of things. He always hopes for the best. I admire that in him. in my opinion, if you have strength through all adverse situations, then you're a superhero in my book.

Since the surgery yesterday morning, his progress is great. When I got to see him in the afternoon after they placed him in the Intensive care unit, he was still heavily sedated, but in good condidtion. I just heard this morning that he was sitting up, which is a very good sign. He is well on his way on the road of recovery.

My Dad is truly blessed.

Life.Can.Be.Good.Too.

I actually had a good day yesterday. For starters, it was Friday, and I've been tired all week. Had 3 big tests this week: Spanish on Monday, Busisness Statistics on Tuesday, and the hardest one of them all, the Geology test on Thursday. So overall this week, I've been tired mentally and physically. Midterms can be such an energy drain! So I was looking forward to the extra sleep this weekend. I complain sometimes about how I don't get to go out and do more stuff than I do, such as partying, clubbing, shopping, etc., etc. But with 17 credit hours and a part time job, and maybe, just maybe squeezing in enough time to get some sleep, partying seems a bit impossible as of right now. Maybe after finals in December, I will be able to do something fun to celebrate.
Anywho, I finally got to see some familar faces as I was making a delivery yesterday: my friends. Its good to see them every once and again, although every one of us is hella busy trying to stay focused on everything, without stressing out. It seems like everyone is tired in their own special way. I believer it si that everyione is becomming burnt out and it's been a month (to today, actually) that classes at UC have begun.
One of the friends that I stopped to talk to was nice enought to walk with me as I was making the delivery, which was very generous of her. We were just catching up on how each other were doing, and all of that fun stuff. After I got off work, we went to get a snack off campus. Joked about the loud high school kids that we saw as we walked by. Got annoyed by the guys that were hanging around just staring all bug-eyed crazy at us. We just chilled and had fun. It was just cool that we got a chance to hang out like that. Haven't done things like that in a while, so it was a treat. That's what I miss the most about being so busy with college-missing hanging out with my people.

Crazy.Man.

I'm on the Webzine email group and I got a link to this page. For a few days, I've been reading about the photo of Bert from Sesame Street pictured on a Bin Laden poster.

Independent Media Center - webcast news

BIN LADEN LOVES "SESAME STREET"?
The Internet news agency Ananova reported Oct. 1 that Islamic protesters in Pakistan and elsewhere are using posters showing the face of Osama Bin Laden alongside Bert, the "Sesame Street" puppet. It is believed an image of Bin Laden with Bert was inadvertently downloaded from a spoof website and used on posters printed up for anti-US rallies across the Middle East and Asia. Press photographs of protests clearly show posters of Osama with a small image of Bert by his right shoulder. The AP told Ananova the photos are not doctored. The image of Bert and Bin Laden first appeared in the cult parody website "Bert is Evil." An executive for "Sesame Street" said: "We're outraged that our characters would be used in this unfortunate and distasteful manner. The people responsible for this should be ashamed."

Haven't been doing much linkage lately, so I'm adding this one.
Don't laugh, but I think that I actually want to see this movie...

Since last Friday, I have been anticipating today; the day in which I have to give my first speech in the Effective Public Speaking Course, in which I am required to take. *ugh* I'm not all that fond of public speaking. Had a horrible experience with it in high school. And the fear lingers on with me while I'm attending college.

The speech went well this morning, for it to be 8am. The topic I selected for the narrative speech was my most embarassing moment. It was about this one day in the sixth grade when my crush on this one guy in my class was revealed in front of everyone! I hid under a table because I was so embarassed! I had a small pause in the middle of the speech, but I was able to overcome it and finish up, thank goodness! A sigh of relief soon followed when I went to my seat. Everything was cool after that though. Well, almost.

And when I thought that that "nervous lump in my stomach" would disappear...here is something else to make it stay put.

What the heck did I get myself into?! I entered my name in a 3 point contest on Wednesday in order to win some free books from the campus bookstore. The contest is going to occur during Midnight Madness tonight at the Shoemaker center. I'm pretty sure that the local news stations will be there covering the UC's b-ball team's first official practice of the upcoming season. Little did I know that Midnight Madness is going to be broadcasted live over the Internet?!

The cool part about tonight's streaming broadcast is that my out of town friends and family can watch it. Or for the ones that don't make it to campus to see it in person.

I just hope and pray that I can make the 3 point shot!

Wish me luck! Check for the contest around 10:48 EST. Yep, 10:48; they got this event planned down to the minute!

Until next time...

Yea! I'm over 1000 hits now! Knowing that at least half of hits are mine, cuz I'm always checking the layout and pictures, among other things. :P

I must be addicted to this game here, cuz I play it at least once a day, even at work! To me that's strange.

But in other news, I had a good weekend. I finally got to purchase the Zip drive that I wanted to purchase all Summer. Lucky me, I had some extra scholarship money from this quarter to pay for it. I feel better buying something for my pc with the $ instead of purchasing some stuff at Old Navy or something. I also went out with some of my HS buddies to a UC football game We beat Tulane! :)

Although the game was great, I felt a bit awkward when they picked me up. I am african-american and they're caucasian. I live in a predomitately african-american neighborhood. Actually my neighbors were outside when I was getting in my buddies car, and in my pov they were staring and gawking at me like "Who are they?!" I mean, they are my buddies and all, but for the ones that do know me in the neighborhood, sees me as this wanna-be white girl or something. I really can't explain or rationalize what they think of me- why should I be worried in the first place?

Well, I'll tell you why: I usually get burned for it. I get picked at sometimes cuz I hang with people outside of my race! I got friends of all walks of life, African-Americans, Caucasians, Indians, Pakastanis (forgive me if it's spelled incorrectly), Arabics, Chinese, etc. etc. I am curious about other people's cultures and lifestyles. What's so wrong with that?!

I guess that some people are very uncomfertable with different things and "breaking the mold" from their "boundaries of comfort" in which they live in. Hey, I think that I am pretty different than the average black girl. Maybe God made me this way for a reason. Even my friends tell me that I'm different. When I get around my cousins, I can be looked at as the "black sheep" when compared to the others' and their lifestyles.

But I am glad that I was exposed to diversity when I went to a college preparatory junior/senior high school. I guess that everyone doesn't recieve such an opportunity to experience diversity when they were young.

I just saw this video for the first time. The song has been played a lot on the radio. Haven't been able to do a lot of video watching lately. Got classes to keep up with. Especially Accounting and Geology. Just had a test today in Geology; I wish that I read the chapter more carefully. In Accounting, I have a balance sheet assignment to turn in tomorrow morning. I spent like 2.5 hours on the assignment Tuesday night, and still couldn't get it to balance. Thank goodness for Teacher's Assistants!

Okay, enough about classes and stuff, just check out the video!
